What is your take on Babylon and what happened in New York city? Is it possible that our greed has been wrapped up in the World Trade Centers and God is angry that we used his name in vanity by saying, we are "one nation under God", and "in God we trust", while we stand in a materialistic country with many idols? Especially money?

You ask a very interesting question… one which I am sure is on the minds of many people today. It is really amazing how so many people have all of a sudden seen the need for God because of this disaster. I guess maybe that is one good thing which has come from all of this. I just hope that attitude continues for years to come, but people seem to forget God quickly. It seems that the attitude of man has always been that once our problems are solved, we no longer have a need for God. Please read Exodus chapter 32, which is the account of Moses going up into the mountain to receive the 10 commandments from God. Even during that short period of time, the people left God and created idols to worship. You are correct in saying that we have created many idols.

It seems that God also gets accused of many of the evil deeds which take place in our world… at least many say he could have stopped them, but didn't. We need to realize that there are 2 forces working in this world…. God and Satan. God has always given man a choice of whom he will serve. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve had a choice of following God or Satan. They chose to follow Satan. Because of their choice they died and brought death into this world for all who come after them. See 1Cor. 15:21-22. God is not responsible for all the evil in this world… Satan is. Many people in this world do not follow the ways of God. They follow Satan and create all manner of evil for the world to endure.

Concerning your question about Babylon: The destruction which took place in New York was not the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning Babylon in chapters 17 and 18 of Revelation. It was more of a fulfillment of a statement made by Jesus in Matt. 24:6-7 which says:

Matt 24:6-7

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

As long as people follow the ways of the devil, evil will be in this world and terrible events will take place. So, the ultimate answer to ending all of these types of events is for all people of the world to turn to God and follow his ways. Since that has never happened and is not likely to happen in the future, we have to rely on guns and bombs to protect us from the evil created by the followers of Satan. I would say that the most powerful weapon we have in the fight against evil is prayer to God. If our nation would follow God and ask him to help us, we would have a power on our side far greater than any bomb ever made.

God bless you as you read and meditate on His Word,
