Is the concept “once saved, always saved” biblical?

Q. I have heard many have the viewpoint “Once Saved, Always Saved”.  Is this Biblical?

When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians, he said in Gal. 4:20 that he was “perplexed” about their spiritual condition.  They had heard and responded in obedience to the gospel, but now they were placing their souls in jeopardy.

Galatians 1:6-9 (NAS’95)

6* I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;

7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!

9 As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, he is to be accursed!

This “other” gospel, or gospel “contrary to that which you received,” had been preached by “false brethren,” Gal. 2:4 tells us:

Galatians 2:

4 But it was because of the false brethren secretly brought in, who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage.

These individuals were attempting to have Christians leave the simplicity of the teaching of Christ and adopt principles of Judaism, and rely on works of the Law to save them.  Paul condemns them in Galatians 3:10.  He even states that he was afraid that he had labored over them “in vain” in Galatians 4:11.  In Galatians 5:4 he says:

Galatians 5:4

4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.

Does that sound like once your are saved, you are always saved?

Acts 15:24

24 “Since we have heard that some of our number to whom we gave no instruction have disturbed you with their words, unsettling your souls,

Acts 20:30

30 and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

2 Cor 11:13

13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.

1 John 4:1

”Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

2 Peter 2:1

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.”

2 Peter 2:2

”And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;”

John 8:31

Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine”

John 8:32

“and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
