Q. I have a friend who tells me that Angels talk to him. He says they tell him what to do and they are always right. What do you say?
I don't know what to say. I could say, as the Hebrew writer said:
2* Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.
I believe that angels are still around, but the point the Hebrew writer is making is that we will never know! The Bible does not tell us that angels will speak to us today, or give us direction.
1* God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2* in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
To receive God's direction today we must listen to His word. The Bible also warns us how to decide WHAT we should listen to, and WHAT we should NOT listen to:
8* But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed!
If angels could speak today they should be judged by how those words compare with that which is revealed in the Scriptures. The Bible is the ultimate authority for hearing and knowing and doing the will of God.
