Q. Please explain, from the Scriptures, the idea that Christ existed before coming to this world as a human being.
The Bible teaches that Christ has existed eternally as a divine being before His entrance into this world as a human being. Here is what the Scriptures Say:
30* “This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’
Jesus was born six months after John the Baptist, but he existed before him.
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question:
42* “What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?” They *said to Him, “The son of David.”
43 He *said to them, “Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,
44 ‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, “SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET”’?
45 “If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?”
Jesus was a decendant of David, but existed before David, therefore David could call Him Lord. Another example:
58* Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”
In numerous places Jesus is said to have come “from heaven:
13* “No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.
32* Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.
42* They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?”
50* “This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
51* “I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”
1 Cor. 15:47
47* The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven.
2 Cor. 8:9
9* For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.
5* Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6* who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7* but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
The Scriptures also teach that all things were created by Jesus, therefore Jesus must have existed before creation:
3* All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
16* For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him.
1* God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,
2* in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
Jesus existed in Glory before he came to this earth:
5* “Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
This is why Jesus is called the Alpha and the Omega. (Rev. 1:17; 3:14; 21:6; 22:13). Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and a good description of Jesus as “one who comes first” is before all things and is eternal with the father
1* In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
